The Clubhouse News – Winter 2014

Residents are well into the swing of utilising the Clubhouse on a regular basis for a variety of activities and entertainment. Crafts and games have become increasingly popular among our residents with regular sessions held each week. These sessions provide a great opportunity not only for indulging in enjoyable and creative pursuits but also for our residents to get to know one another.

The craft group, as seen here, are currently knitting a selection of beautiful blankets for use in the Residential Aged Care Facility. Other crafts enjoyed by the residents include beading, card making and scrapbooking. Our residents are also enjoying participating in games, some of which include mahjong and canasta.

New residents Brian and Cynthia Hall have been patiently waiting for construction to be completed and have eagerly watched their villa through the construction phase. They are very excited to be the first residents to move into their new villa at 1 Barney Court. The occupation of the 6 villas in Barney Court brings the Fairway Rise population to over 100 residents.

Aged Care Facility Update

In the past decade, Southern Cross Care (Tas.) Inc. has experienced enormous growth in Tasmania, with the construction of new retirement villages at Glenara Lakes in Launceston, Saint Canice in Sandy Bay and now the new retirement village known as Fairway Rise on the Eastern Shore of Hobart. CEO Richard Sadek says the capital cost on these and other growth projects will be in the order of $160 million.

“The Fairway Rise Village development represents the largest and most exciting capital development project that Southern Cross Care has ever undertaken,” he says. “There’s also been considerable growth through increasing community aged care services in Hobart, Ainslie Low Head, Devonport, Somerset and on King Island.”

The Clubhouse News – Autumn 2014

David Johnstone from the Tasmanian Wine Centre visited Fairway Rise and met with some of the new residents to introduce the benefits of the Wine Club that is promoted by Under The Stars magazine. He is pictured here with residents Tony and Bev Palmer, along with Carol Joseph, the Village and Sales Co-ordinator, donating some of their premium wines for the residents to sample.

Social outings are now a regular highlight of the Fairway Rise calendar. Pictured here are a group of residents who enjoyed a New Year excursion to the Lucaston Orchard where they stocked up on a selection of summer berries. The residents regularly plan trips to places such as Mount Field National Park, Begonia Gardens in Cambridge and the Wicked Cheese factory in Richmond and have enjoyed the benefits of these social outings especially those who no longer drive. There are always many laughs to be had and fun stories to be heard upon their return.
