The Clubhouse News – Spring 2013

With the recently finished putting green, Fairway Rise residents have been taking every opportunity to brush up on their golfing skills. The keen players have also started a regular putting competition. However the big news is the official opening of The Clubhouse to recognise the golfing heritage of the site.

In late August, Chairman Ray Groom AO welcomed guests and all 43 current residents of the retirement village. However the complex will be a great deal larger, works are underway now on the third stage together with a modern $20M aged care facility.

The massive project is now a $52M development on the former Rosny Golf Club site.

SCC Chairman Ray Groom addressed the residents and guests at the opening of The Clubhouse, followed by the official unveiling with the Chairman Ray Groom and the Village Coordinator Carol Joseph.

Two paintings have been presented to the residents to be hung in The Clubhouse. Nina Lawler from Saint Canice painted her version of the former site of the old Rosny Golf Course. Saint Canice resident, artist Roz Kirkcaldie completed a painting of Fairway Rise Village taking shape.

Once the formalities were over, the guests then moved outside onto the balcony to watch competitors in their first official competition. The group included golfing legend Peter Toogood M.B.E. O.A. in blue cap, Ray Groom, with residents Shirley Whitford, Isobel Winter and Otto Kreune.
